"The plot felt recycler to me. There was an above average level of spice but the book felt really YA to me. Finished it with a fair amount of skimming, especially when it was Serce's backstory. "

"Unfortunately DNF at 56%
I quite liked the first book and was really looking forward to getting into this one. But this insta attraction/lust/obvious mate thing that’s going on doesn’t interest me. Besides, it makes no sense that the king doesn’t recognize her when she’s “pretending” to be Nadir’s fated, when she’d admitted to being regularly tortured by the king every year. It just felt like a way to get Lor and Nadir into this fake dating, hate love banter thing that just felt rather overplayed and not really believable. Ah well, I guess that’ll be the end of my interest in this one…"
"Okay, Love, but not as good as the first for the following reasons: (excuse my mini rant of all my thoughts)

1) Lor lost her feral-ness, which was sad. I loved her give-no-fucks, primal vibe and i feel like she lost that in this book and went a bit soft
2) so basically the reader (me) obviously knows that Nadir and Lor are fated mates and theres this whole build up in the book, but THEY STILL HAVENT FIGURED IT OUT!!!! Wtf?!? like whats even the point of describing how their magic connects and surges when theyre together a million times if they arent going to do anything about it and figure out WHY ITS HAPPENING
3) it wasnt as enthralling and fast-paced as the first, as Lor & Nadir spend a chunk of the book in the Aurora Keep going to random parties and searching and failing to find the Crown
4) Still got hella questions. Why can only Lor speak to the Artefacts? Especially if they arent her own.
5) Didnt love the flashbacks with Serce and Wolf, especially bc Lor and Nadir didnt even know a lot of the info in the flashbacks, so its frustrating to know the info and have them act without that knowledge, if that makes sense.
Also - building off of this point, the flashbacks make it seem like 2 primaries cant join in marriage bond (bc they will become too powerful?) even if they are fated mates, and we are following the love story of 2 primaries who are supposed fated mates (Lor & Nadir) which makes me kinda fearful that theyre going to fall in love and not be able to be together. Which like why would i read it then? But like why would Zerra (their Goddess) “bless” them with a fated mate if it was impossible for them to be together? sounds sus to me.

Regardless of my mini word-vomit rant, i still loved the book and couldnt stop reading to see where it was going. although we got to see more of Lor & Nadir together, it felt as though there was no climax in this book, kind of just a filler/setting the scene to build up to the next book. I do think this info was needed and will probably add to the story once we have the next book."

"I liked this more than the first book. I think the romance in this book was so much better, the tension and slow burn had me good. The world building was also more understandable. I think the Serce povs really helped me understand how the current world came to be. At times this was slow paced but I enjoyed reading, I really liked the side characters specifically Nadir and Lor’s siblings and inner circle. I’m definitely still curious to see how everything is going to tie together and waiting for Nadir and Lor to finally be together lol. That ending though, I need the next book in this series ASAP!

Tropes/themes:
- Fae’s
- Hidden powers and magic
- Slow burn
- Dual pov
- Past and present timelines
- Diversity
- Enemies to lovers
- Family connection"
"Immaculate enemies to (maybe?) lovers. Need the next book asap"
