"This book is like watching an action movie on fast forward. Things happen so fast it's blink and you will miss it-in a book. Terrible things happen to all the characters every five pages and I keep wondering why I am supposed to care or be invested when the characters all have so little time to give you any true character development they feel like cardboard cut outs.
I hate putting a book down in the middle but in the middle of this one I had to because in around 25 pages right around the middle the primary protagonist went from stereotypical fierce independent woman to weeping maiden locked in a tower and the secondary protagonist went from clever warrior on the verge of turning on his incredibly, almost ludicrously, evil kingdom to a dull reluctant soldier of said evil kingdom making the worst possible decisions to quite literally no benefit to himself and complete detriment.
Oh also characters often act as if they suddenly know knowledge they were previously and specifically stated to not know. Blurt out freely things that were supposed to be dearly held secrets only the chapter before like it's no big deal, or forget knowledge they had only the day before. I kept going back to make sure I wasn't crazy and the character knowledge really was just this inconsistent.
I have seen worse, the prose is decent and it's been well edited, but it's got less depth than a puddle."
