"From the episodes I saw I got the feeling that this show was about expectations and how the expectations we put on others might not be what they want or feel. The princess you want to save might not actually want to be saved for example. Outside of that I think it’s use of scenery and limited animation is amazing. This show is beautiful. I need to finish it and yes I’d recommend it especially to people that are aren’t used to shojoesque imagery. "

"This js a really excellent anime. It has some dark themes and topics, so you might want to check a trigger warnings list (even if you arent generally affected by stuff like that.. it's pretty bad sometimes.) It's the kind of thing that you can talk about for hours, make like 14 original video essays on.. some of the episodes are so full of metaphors that it is confusing (looking at you, episode 23). And, it is pretty much as sapphic as 1997 Japan would allow."

"Did I love this show? Yes. Did I love it so much that I almost bought a 200$ figure of Utena at a convention once when I had no spending money? Yes. Do I still regret not buying it? Yes. Would I recommend other people watch it? Maybe. It's a classic 90s anime, a surreal coming of age story steeped in queer themes. Its pretty slow paced at parts, so you've been warned. "

"every time a certain someone shows up on the screen, a gun gets immediately photoshopped to my hand. that aside, please watch this. it was a little confusing/boring in the first couple of episodes (i thought it was going to be a basic magical girl anime), but time proved me wrong. I currently feel like i stubbed my toes one by one, lost a swordfight, got rejected by a high acceptance rate college, but for that, was awarded a whole water supply in the middle of the desert. this show is great."
