SlaitchIt was hard to know what rating to give this. This is an excellent primary source of the Klondike gold rush. The author was a journalist who went to Klondike and lived the experience himself while interviewing the miners. The story is, however, absolutely riddled with racist language that is just heartbreaking to read and know what the people he is talking about were experiencing. I ultimately decided to give it the higher rating in spite of the racism: 1) because this really is an excellent primary source and 2) we cannot and should not pretend that what happened in the US and Canada didn't happen--we have to look that history straight in the eyes, acknowledge it, and learn from it.
