" ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ rewatch. A must for everyone’s drag performers on a road trip collection! I enjoyed it slightly more in the 90s, a little slower than I remember and sure, a bit dated but still a tour de force. With the most incredible over the top costumes to be found anywhere (which somehow the Queens manage to take everywhere including trekking through the desert and climbing mountains lol), plus some surprisingly beautiful cinematography of the stunning Australian desert. Guy Pearce steals the show (and is pretty damn gorgeous too)! "

"Very humorous movie. Never did I ever think I would see a movie about drag queens in the desert, and that it would work so well visually and narratively. This is gorgeously shot and the story and characters are entertaining enough to hold our attention from beginning to end. There are bits that came across as dated, but as a whole it still works really well. Much more than The Birdcage, which was not only dated in the sense of it coming clearly from the 90s, but also felt like a sitcom stretched out to a longer runtime. This movie avoids that and works mostly because it's a fun road movie with actors who have great chemistry together. I personally think Terence Stamp is the best thing in the movie, but both Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving are great as well. See this movie for its aesthetic as much as its story. Seriously, I wasn't expecting to love it visually. I don't want anyone to think they're going to see a Malick movie, but for what it is, it's really beautiful to watch. They could have easily settled for more scenes in the bus and using the desert for a couple key (cliched) scenes, but there are scenes that really bring out the beauty with the assistance of bright drag colors. Really fun movie."
"Someone once said all drag queen movies are self-serious and severe because of To Wong Foo which after watching To Wong Foo I thought was kind of nuts. This movie is more of those things. I spent a good portion of this not enjoying myself at all. That being said, there are good things here and they eventually won me over. The sympathetic portrayal of a trans woman... played by a cis man but still. The soundtrack is full of gay standards that are still good. But what really saved this for me was the relationship between Hugo's character and his son which was very sweet and emotionally resonant."
