The Outsiders image

Topic: The Outsiders

I don’t know if this is the right group but anyway......... does The Outsiders have any spice in it? I’m not aloud to read spice, so if there is can you kinda tell me what it is? And how much language is there? How adult is it? Thanks! ❤️

Katie I read this like forever ago so I may be wrong but I dont think it had any spice, but I think maybe a tad bit of language. I read it for school though so u should be good.

Aubrey Summers There's no spice, and a small amount of mild language. There are some suggestive themes, but nothing at all detailed, just implications that aren't followed through(for example, it says that a guy talks really dirty to a girl, but that's literally all it actually says). I would say you could read it at 13 or older. I read it at 14, and it's really good!

GloriousPurpose Thank you so much! It’s my dad’s favorite book so I wanted to read it! And it sounds like it has Marauders vibes........ which I’m all here for!

Waris Mobin @gloriouspurpose yeah not really spice but does have some language but it will be a good book for you. One of my favorites.

Lea Call I honestly do not remember there being "spice" nor much if any "language". I do know S. E. Hinton wrote the book when she was 15-16. So I would think it would be okay to read if you are at least 14-15. It was assigned reading when I was 8th or 9th grade... many years ago. Hope this helps.

GloriousPurpose Thank you so much! I didn’t know they were that young when writing it! That’s so cool! Perfect I can probably read it then! Yayyyyyy!

Lea Call I Googled it...it is PG-13, appropriate for 13+, some said 11+. Copied this:. Language: A few instances of “hell” and “damnit”; though some of the boys swear a lot, the words are never spelled out and are frequently written as “—–” or “he cussed” or “he said words that made my ears turn red”. As far as violence: there is a scene where "a knife is held to someone's throat".

Annie There’s nothing to it from what I can remember. I read it when I was 12 or 13 somewhere around those ages. It’s really good. But you’ll definitely need tissues.😊

yvonne murphy-covello If you find you like it, try her other books! Tex, Rumble Fish and That Was Then, This Is Now. FYI, they were all made into movies in the '80s. Enjoy!

GloriousPurpose Thanks! Are all of them spice free?

yvonne murphy-covello @gloriouspurpose It's been a long time since I read them, but they are all written in the same fashion as The Outsiders. I don't remember any spice. They are all considered young adult. I first read them in Jr high and high school. If you're concerned with the content, have your dad check them out first. Happy reading!

Joanna Robertson It was my favorite book growing up too. The writing is descriptive and wonderful and the characterization is excellent. A sad and sweet book about growing up.
