In nineteen minutes, you can mow the front lawn, color your hair, watch a third of a hockey game. In nineteen minutes, you can bake scones or get a tooth filled by a dentist; you can fold laundry for a family of five....In nineteen minutes, you can stop the world, or you can just jump off it. In nineteen minutes, you can get revenge. Sterling is a small, ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens -- until the day its complacency is shattered by a shocking act of violence. In the aftermath, the town's residents must not only seek justice in order to begin healing but also come to terms with the role they played in the tragedy. For them, the lines between truth and fiction, right and wrong, insider and outsider have been obscured forever. Josie Cormier, the teenage daughter of the judge sitting on the case, could be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened in front of her own eyes. And as the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show, destroying the closest of friendships and families. Told with the straightforward style for which she has become known, it asks simple questions that have no easy answers: Can your own child become a mystery to you? What does it mean to be different in our society? Is it ever okay for a victim to strike back? And who -- if anyone -- has the right to judge someone else?

"WOW. This was a powerful, heartbreaking, all consuming book. It was so hard to decide how to feel. The twist was absolutely shocking and heartbreaking at the same time. The relationships were beautiful and realistic. I feel Jodi Picoult has a way of writing about important social issues in a tasteful, non judgmental way and her books always feel important to me and leave me needing more, feeling empty as you do after you get lost in a great book and it ends. 5/5 stars from me. Read this book. "

"This is a really great book! It makes you feel sad for every character at some point in it. I loved it and I would definitely read it again, however, it seemed really drawn out. I think a lot of the information near the middle of the book was unnecessary and just there to add length. "
"This book was one of the first books I read where I couldn’t put it down. The storyline was so intriguing and had me hooked. The story not only brings light to real life situations but also ties in valuable life lessons."

"I loved this book. It is very raw and powerful. I like that it takes you through not only every step of the shooting and trial process, but maybe people’s viewpoints. There is a genuine effort to make every single person real and relatable. I like that we got the hear the shooters point of view and reasoning. It isn’t even necessarily to get you to pity him, but simply to bring to light what is happening daily in our lives and how it affects people"
