K a Tucker
From the international bestselling author of The Simple Wild and Ten Tiny Breaths comes a new second-chance, hate-to-love romance.Scarlet Reed has returned to Polson Falls, convinced that twelve years away is long enough to shed her humiliating childhood identity as the town harlot's daughter. With a teaching job secured and an adorable fixer-upper to call home, things in her life are finally looking up.That is, until she finds out that Shane Beckett lives next door.Shane Beckett, the handsome and charismatic high school star quarterback who smashed her heart. The lying, cheating player who was supposed to be long gone, living the pro football dream and fooling women into thinking he's Prince Charming. Shane Beckett, who is as attractive as ever and flashing his dimples at her as if he has done no wrong.Scarlet makes it abundantly clear that old wounds have not been forgotten. Neighbors they may be, but friends they most certainly are not. She won't allow herself to fall for the single father and firefighter again, no matter how many apologies he offers, how many times he rushes to her aid, or how hard he makes her heart pound. But as she spends more time with him, she begins to fear that maybe she's wrong. Maybe Shane has changed. And maybe this time she's the one playing herself-out of a chance at true happiness.

"<strong>I refuse to believe an adult woman wrote this</strong><br/><br/>It's not that it's written poorly. There's a foundation for a good story here. The author has talent. Unfortunately she wrote a story about 30 year olds as if they were 15. The story is told entirely from Scarlett's POV. I don't know if this is good or bad, but her thoughts are overwhelmingly redundant. She isn't just attracted to Shane. She doesn't just like him or even love him. She is OBSESSED with him. She worships his every move. The author never lets more that a couple paragraphs pass without Scarlett drooling over Shane. The amount of times she lost track of what she was doing or just openly gaped at Shane was mind numbing of course he would constantly catch her and arrogantly smirk or chuckle. Scarlett is presented has absolutely pathetic and helpless in her lust for Shane. Shane exists solely for woman to ogle and to not take no for an answer. He's a leading man in a romance novel so obviously he's entitled garbage. He pursues her relentlessly even when he thinks she has a man. He doesn't care. She shoots him down multiple times. He respects her decision and immediately backs off. Just kidding, he lets himself in to her house with a key she didn't realize he had. He puts the moves on her and she says she wants to take it slow. Seeing as how this book was we in 2020 and men are more aware than ever that no means no you would think the author would have him back off but of course not. She continues the trash tradition of romanticizing the leading man not taking no for an answer. So Scarlett eventually gives in. I'm so sick of this happening in romance novels. Men not taking no for an answer and continuing to pressure women into sex is not now and has never been acceptable or romantic. Stop writing this!!!! Anyways none of the characters have matured even a little bit since high school. Our leads take turns trying to have sex with other people in front of each other because that's what you want in a romance. Shane is painted out to be a great dad later in the book but he spends the first half bailing on his son every time he had an opportunity to flirt with Scarlett. Father of the year. Just an incredibly immature book that might have been saved if not for the author's insistence on never letting us forget how hot Shane is. Pass on this."

"<strong>Second chance at love and a little heartbreak </strong><br/><br/>If you were ever the victim of high school romance heartbreak this book will give you all the feels and transport you back in time. The moons and planets align for Scarlet to end up back in her home town after 12 years. Scarlet is still very much a product of her mothers inhibitions and a summer romance that crashed and burned before her senior year. Highly recommend."
"Fun, light, classic happy ending"
