This was supposed to be her happily ever after...It’s a familiar tale: A kind and beautiful young girl, reeling from loss. A doting father, frantic to bring a mother’s love back into his daughter’s life. And the selfish, cruel woman who insinuates herself into that family?a woman so unfeeling, so cold hearted, that when her new husband dies, she makes the girl a servant in her own home. But who is that evil stepmother, that icy lady of the house? How did she become so closed off that, in the face of a child’s grief, she thought only to seek wealth and power for herself and her abhorrent daughters? Before that fateful ball, before the glass slipper and the prince, there was another story?a story of love and grief, of hope and of dreams dashed. It is the story of Lady Tremaine.Even the coldest of villains are sometimes wives and mothers, women who loved and lost and hoped for something grander for their lives . . . once upon a dream. The latest novel in Serena Valentino’s deliciously devious Villains series introduces the most famed and hated wicked stepmother of them all?but turns everything you know about her on its head.

"This is the eighth book in Disneys Villain Series.
This happily ever after should’ve been hers… another familiar tale: a sweet, beautiful young girl, reeling from loss. A devoted father ready to bring a mothers love back into his daughters life. And the cruel, selfish woman who forces herself into the family— a woman so cold hearted, that when her new husband dies, the girl is made a servant in her home.
But who is this evil, icy stepmother really? How did she become so closed off that she only looks for wealth and power for herself and her detestable daughters? Before that ball, before the glass slipper, before the Prince— there was an entirely different story. A story of both love and grief, the story of Lady Tremaine. Even the coldest of villains can be wives, mothers, women who have loved, lost, and hoped for bigger things.
This takes the life of Lady Tremaine from early on in her life till when she became the “evil stepmother”. Was she always so evil, cold hearted, and wicked? Why did she detest Cinderella so much? Did she ever want to do good for anyone?
This book does make you think of villains backstories a lot more. Lady Tremaine wasn’t always the one punishing Cinderella and she didn’t begin as an evil woman. Before she became a step mother, she had friends, a life, and a love. Though Lady Tremaine wasn’t always the villain, she was the one who got dealt the bad hand.
This does come back around to bringing in the other books. It welcomes back the Odd Sisters, Fairy Godmother, and introduces the Many Kingdoms as a separate world from London. This book was a really good one, but I do feel like she didn’t deserve to receive the short end of the stick just because she was fated to be the villain. I really enjoyed this one though, I loved reading a potential back story of one of the most famous and misunderstood villains. "
"Pretty good. The book gave me a new perspective. It just was a little boring. Perfect for those who like calm books but not so much for the ones who like action packed books."

"It started out very intriguing, but got repetitive and the ending was pretty dumb. "

"I was very happy to have the overarching story back in this book. I thought that the one before this was lacking that tie in. I am enjoying hearing the back stories of these Disney villains. I listened to the audiobook and was happy with it. A "lighthearted" book compared to the thriller and horror books that I normally read."

"AH-MAZING. People need to talk about this book so much more! I loved the plot so much. Two mirroring realms caught in a centuries long curse that requires a princess fae from one of the kingdoms of the Faerie realm to sneak into the realm of Ethereum to unalive and steal the heart of one of the lords so that the Faerie realm can continue to thrive. I think what I loved more is how the princess, Dawn of the Summer Court, was both a lady and a bad b!tch at the same time. She stole my attention throughout the story, which rarely happens when I read books cause I'm always on the search for my next book boyfriend! She knew her power and strength, she knew she had a mission, and tried her best to stick to it, all while still having some poise despite being a trained assassin. Zander, the MMC, still was worth reading and admiring. He's loyal to those he loves and cares for and will do anything to make sure they are safe. I read this book in about a day and a half. Although no spice (closed door, if anything), I could not put it down. I was so invested in this curse that was put on both realms. I immediately needed the second but I have to wait a few more months!

Thank you so much to Leia Stone, Julie Hall, and the Nerd Fam for this eARC! Absolutely enjoyed every single page of this.

For those who enjoy enemies-to-lovers, fated mates, forbidden romance, and forced proximity, this is for you. I want to say trials and games too and if you read it, you'll know why!"
"Love it "
