The Defining Decade has changed the way millions of twentysomethings think about their twenties—and themselves. Revised and reissued for a new generation, let it change how you think about you and yours. Our "thirty-is-the-new-twenty" culture tells us the twentysomething years don't matter. Some say they are an extended adolescence. Others call them an emerging adulthood. In The Defining Decade, Meg Jay argues that twentysomethings have been caught in a swirl of hype and misinformation, much of which has trivialized the most transformative time of our lives.Drawing from more than two decades of work with thousands of clients and students, Jay weaves the latest science of the twentysomething years with behind-closed-doors stories from twentysomethings themselves. The result is a provocative read that provides the tools necessary to take the most of your twenties, and shows us how work, relationships, personality, identity and even the brain can change more during this decade than at any other time in adulthood—if we use the time well. Also included in this updated edition: Up-to-date research on work, love, the brain, friendship, technology, and fertilityWhat a decade of device use has taught us about looking at friends—and looking for love—online29 conversations to have with your partner—or to keep in mind as you search for oneA social experiment in which "digital natives" go without their phonesA Reader's Guide for book clubs, classrooms, or further self-reflection

"I highly recommend this book for anyone who’s graduating high school, is almost in their 20s, or is already in their 20s and struggling to know what to do in your life. It’s a very helpful book with stories from real people in their 20s, which makes it so much more relatable. Most people think that the 20s is the time to take it easy, but actually your 20s is the decade where you’ve got to start making decisions about what you want your future to be in terms of jobs, relationships, etc."

"I found this book immensely helpful!! Perhaps this is not a flattering comparison towards myself, but I definitely identified with some of Dr. Jay’s clients. But I also feel like that was sort of the point: 20-somethings who are grappling with their 20s are not alone. I thought this book has some really good advice and made me feel a little better about the somewhat scary to think about future."

"PSA: If you’re in your twenties, you HAVE to read this book (especially if you’re in your last semester of college). This clinical psychologist takes common hurdles that young people encounter and break down how to tackle them. She also shows how we can achieve in our twenties for an easier time in our thirties. "

"I’d probably give this book 4/5 stars. Meg Jay offered advice to 20-somethings and uses the stories of her past psychotherapy clients to help relay the message. It’s a good and easy read, though it lacks nuance and grace. "

"I loved this book because of the stories the author told about her own clients. A lot of them were relatable and it made me feel good to know I’m not alone "
