"The character complexity still astounds me. Really they are just one of those fictional crews you want to be apart of. The inside jokes, banter, made me wanted to crawl in the story and beg them to let me help. But damn Kaz went dark, and of course I liked it...... a lot. I noticed the beginning of this book was almost as difficult to settle in as the first. Maybe I just have to become attuned to the writing style because it gets much easier later on.

Dessert hoarding dragon.

"Don't be a Matthias."
Nina cover her mouth in horror. "I'm going to eat twice as much cake to make up for it."
Inej nodded. "Sound Policy."

Unfortunately there was non stop schemes which was a bit much for me. The first book was understandable and I know the crows had to press on to get ahead but just a few minutes here and there would have sufficed. Often I had to take breaks reading so I would stress myself out. So that meant there was little to no down time for the characters and I feel like we really needed to see that. Even in the end a bit of normalcy maybe some family dynamics or display of affection would have been appreciated and would have brought more closer.

Still I loved the continuation of the story. Honestly couldn't figure out where things were going. Watching a lot of book tube I was told multiple times to read this seires first but low and behold it spoiled parts of Shadow and Bone for me. Also the character arcs are just beautiful and the six protagonist plus a few others really enrich the story. There relationships got to a bit of a stand still which was disappointing. The angst was perfect in Six of Crows but after waiting for so long I thought something would come of it.

Matthias inability to understand innuendos might have been the best thing I've ever read. I was also intrigued by the contrast of Inej and Dunyasha. Dunyasha was perfection, all in white and Inej quite simply a mess of scars and a big nobody. But that's where the scale tips. Inej has faced a loosing battle so I respect the lesson learned in this.

Reading this review I did complain a bit but it's because I didn't rewrite everything I loved from the first book which still was present in Crooked Kingdom. Pairing my reading with the Spotify Playlist from the first story still worked out well. These are unbelievably amazing characters and they deserve their own accompaniment. The ending was nice and tidy though I still wished we could have seen them happy if not for a brief time.

"Madeleine Michaud?" Jesper said.
"You said we'd have breakfast!"
"I had to go to Fjerda."
"Fjerda?"
Jasper headed up the stairs after Wylan, then poked his head back into the reading room. "If I live, I'll by you waffles."
"You don't have enough money to buy her waffles," Wylan grumbled.
"Be quiet. We're in a library.""
