Kingfisher comes an original and subversive fantasy adventure.*The very special hardcover edition features a gold foil stamp on the casing and custom endpapers illustrated by the author.*This isn't the kind of fairy tale where the princess marries a prince. It's the one where she kills him.Marra — a shy, convent-raised, third-born daughter — is relieved not to be married off for the sake of her parents’ throne. Her older sister wasn’t so fortunate though, and her royal husband is as abusive as he is powerful. From the safety of the convent, Marra wonders who will come to her sister’s rescue and put a stop to this. But after years of watching their families and kingdoms pretend all is well, Marra realizes if any hero is coming, it will have to be Marra herself. If Marra can complete three impossible tasks, a witch will grant her the tools she needs. But, as is the way in stories of princes and the impossible, these tasks are only the beginning of Marra’s strange and enchanting journey to save her sister and topple a throne.“Wholly entertaining."—Buzzfeed“A modern classic.”—Seanan McGuire, New York Times bestselling author of Every Heart A Doorway“Pure delight. "This was a really good book! Loved the writing style, and the characters! Bonedog was my favorite! If you want a dark, kind of spooky fantasy, then this book is definitely worth checking out!"

"Darker fantasy with an oryginal story…story about sisterhood, motherhood and abuse…"

"A new-age fairytale that has the spirit of the old fairytales. This story had just the right amount of magic and luck that made it hopeful and fairytale-esc without falling into the trap of focusing on the female lead or the romance too much. The story felt like the story all the characters rather than the story of the fl and her crew that follow her. The world was also a perfect mix of magic but a little bit of realism. "

"Hauntingly dark, amazing story, the ending had me in tears. The humour was a light touch against the darkness. Bonedog was the best companion through the whole book. The thief-wheel will now live in my head forever…absolutely terrifying. Such a good book! "

"While I loved parts of this, there were parts that just were confusing for me. For that I give it 3.75 stars. "

"Bone dog hardcover!! I really enjoyed this fairytale like fantasy. It is a unique story with equally well written unique characters. Like a demon inside a chicken!!! The middle gets slow but push through, it is worth it."

"I have yet to find a book by T. Kingfisher that I don't like. This one was another amazing read. There was magic, fairy godmothers, a goblin market, a rag tag group of saviors, an cursed kingdom and a pet named Bonedog; what more could you need? There were multiple amusing twists and turns."

"This dark fairytale does an incredible job of incorporating archetypes we are all familiar with while also creating a completely unique story to tell that has a little bit of everything. Loved it! "
