Midsummer Night

"A short, easily bingeable series following a Norwegian family celebrating midsummer. While I loved most of this, I thought the emotional turmoil from such large events that happened in each of the character’s lives was sped through and completely unresolved. There remained noticeable loose threads that were left abandoned amidst this show’s greater narrative. Though, they perhaps chose to portray everything as being more resolved, peaceful, and cohesive than it truly was. I almost wish the series had been longer, too, to address the brokenness of certain members of the family. As the psychology of emotion is more longstanding and complicated, which I think deserved significantly more air time. Told through the eloquence of vibrant color and story, each family member goes through a lot to overcome some of life’s biggest hurdles. I thought the acting was strong and so was the synergy between characters who love, lose, and process inner conflict and trouble. Being alone becomes a great fear along the way too, but isn’t it better to sometimes be alone than with someone who isn’t right for you. It might be hard but it is a necessity in order to find more long-term happiness that sustains the soul. "
