I Survived

"Highly recommend. I must say these are some of the most frightening cases I’ve ever heard & they are told in the best way. Originally got a preview of these on Cold Case Podcast. Although background is given by narrator & context may be added by those involved in the case, the majority of the time is spent just listening to the raw recounting by the survivor(s) of what they endured. In so many cases this is 20-30 years after the fact and yet the raw emotion is still palpable as if they are right back there when it happened. Others tell it matter of factly because they’ve told it so many times but I love one survivor’s quote where she said that her therapist said, “No matter how many times I tell my story, every time it is helping me to heal my trauma a little bit more.” I’m in awe of all of the survivor stories I’ve listened to so far and the selfless ways they’ve chosen to dedicate the rest of their lives. It also shines a light on our criminal justice system and how difficult it is on survivors who have had convictions overturned in states where laws are passed and when they have to continuously go to parole hearings to keep their perpetrator in prison. A difficult but must listen. However, lots of ads so I just fast forward. "
