"Based on the true story of Trish Weir, an 18 year old woman who was kidnapped and raped in 1963. This is a powerful and emotional movie that deserves to be seen. Trish's bravery in pressing charges against her attacker, Ernesto Miranda, led to the landmark Supreme Court case that created Miranda rights. I didn’t know that these rights were named after a convicted rapist.
Abigail Breslin shines as Trish, delivering a heart wrenching performance that might leave you reaching for tissues. It also features a strong supporting cast, including Luke Wilson and Andy Garcia, but Ryan Philippe's performance fails terribly. While the story itself is important, the movie does feel like a Lifetime Original. It felt bland and boring at times.
The stats at the end are staggering: only 5 out of 1,000 cases are convicted. It's a harsh reminder that, 60 years later, this story still resonates.
This was Donald Sutherland's last film before his passing, adding a poignant touch to an already powerful story. 7/10"
