The Devil's Bath

"Wow! Set in Austria in the 18th century and based on a true story, this movie is both creepy and atmospheric. It is based on a woman named Agnes who is newly married and is desperate to have a baby. Also recently near her village, a woman murdered a baby and then confessed to the murder. Her executed body was left in the woods as a deterrent to others. There are many accounts apparently of suicidal people, mostly women, in the 17th and 18th century murdering mostly children in order to get themselves killed. Since suicide was considered even worse than murder and you couldn’t even be buried if you committed it, some people saw this as their only way out. Anyway, as we follow Agnes’ story we see how her life and the life of the woman in the beginning of the movie collide. I thought the lead actress was amazing and really carried the movie. I hope to see more from her. The movie was from the director of The Lodge and Goodnight Mommy which are two of my favorite horror movies. "
