"Bill Robinson, the tap dancer who starred in a few films with Shirley Temple, and had a successful but turbulent career, is played respectably and realistically by Gregory Hines. I watched this movie many years after seeing it, and I am still impressed by Hines performance. It is also a sad portrait of trying to have success while encountering racism at every turn. But Bill Robinson tried to make the best of his talent."
