"You know what, even though it's out there and feels more like it's own movie that they threw into the swan princess franchise, I did like it. Not sure Your young boys will be entertained but the girls will be.
There's plenty of relationships to dive into, a funny enough villian, constant obstacles, and of course the characters we know and love returning too. Other than that, I mean it when I say it's another movie outside swan princess. There are a lot of parallels between this one & the Swan Princess movie. You'll notice them when you see it.
(SPOILERS)
I felt like having everyone but Odette be fooled by Fang allowed for Derek to get some redemption for falling for the black swan before. Now they realize its not always as it appears.
Until the climax, though the swan princess is useless. She is forced back into the story at the last second, then hailed as a hero. It's so forced. Honestly, it's annoying. The story just has to continue making her a legend in this world, it's ridiculous. I'm not against it, but do it right or be more subtle.
Then there's Fangs love for Chin. That felt fake & not true to the character they presented her as. It works plotwise but not character wise. It just doesn't match her & some of her actions. Like at the end, she loves him yet throws him in the painting with everyone else. I get she wanted him to see Mei die, but if she's obsessed with him like she's supposed to be she wouldn't have done that. It just felt like they needed a reason for her to keep the two of them apart & the best they came up with was make her love him. Then they fit that idea into the story they already wrote out. I hope that makes sense.
I wouldn't watch this movie on its own. It's always to finish the franchise. However, The story was well made, with a few convenient plot lines thrown in. It kind of felt like a different writer was brought in to finish this tale. Despite that I do like it. Not a lot but enough to make it a like instead of dislike. "
