Tony and Felix own a tramp boat, and sail around the Caribbean doing odd jobs and drinking a lot. They agree to ferry the beautiful but passportless Irena to another island. They both fall for her, leading to betrayal and a break-up of their partnership. Tony takes a job on a cargo ship. After a collision he finds himself trapped below deck with time running out (the ship is aflame), and only Felix, whom he hates and has sworn to kill, left to save him.

"This romantic drama has a great cast, but a very strange plot. The movie stars Rita Hayworth, Robert Mitchum, and Jack Lemmon. Mitchum, or Felix, and Jack, or Tony, are partners and smugglers in the local area which seems to be somewhere in the Caribbean. Each is attracted to Rita Hayworth, the femme fatale who can lead either one of them astray. The plot takes some strange turns, but overall, the story is about whether or not Rita, or Irena, feels she can outrun her past and make a better future. Robert, The movie showcases the beautiful scenery, native dances, limbo contests and singing. It is a strange mixture of drama but entertaining nonetheless."
