"Topkapi is madcap heist comedy directed by Jules Dassin. The polar opposite Dassin’s other heist film, Rififi, this is a weird Technicolor travelogue into Turkey. It is brimming with its mid-60s pedigree, from its detached interludes to its psychedelic style. It’s a lot of fun though, full of energy and surprises.
Though it isn’t famous, Topkapi is a very influential movie. It feels like much more of a precursor to modern Ocean’s 11 films than the actual original 1960s Ocean’s 11 does and the first Mission Impossible movie directly lifted it’s famous heist scene out of this movie.
4 out of 5 stars"
