"This drama starring Richard Burton and Mary Ure is hard to describe. Most of the dialogue is passionate, intense, and fiery. 🔥 Burton plays the role of a small business owner who has a candy stall in the local farmer's market in town. His wife is upper class and married him out of love and possibly in spite of her parents. Most of the storyline is about Burton's hatred of his marriage, his wife's in-laws, friends, and his view of the upper class in general. He feels that everyone looks down upon him, and uses every opportunity to make his wife feel reviled . The supporting actors are great and show how people can take emotional abuse, but still love a person and and feel tormented by that love. It is a testament to Burton's acting ability that he was able to keep up the intensity of such a vitriol-fuelled character for the entire film. Donald Pleasance plays the role of a small-minded official. I was greatly pleased to see an Indian actor in a small part of the film even though it showed how racism affects people's lives, and ruin things for others. This film makes you think about how emotional abuse affects people, and the toll it takes on their lives."
