With a single abortion clinic remaining in the state of Mississippi, the city of Jackson has become ground zero in the nation's battle over reproductive health-care. Jackson is an intimate portrait of the interwoven lives of three women in this town. Wrought with the racial and religious undertones of the Deep South, the lives of two women are deeply affected by the director of the local pro-life crisis pregnancy center and the movement she represents.

"the thing that haunts me is all those checkbooks popping out at an affluent HEAVILY white, extremely christian gathering, to make a fake clinic to scam women (and other pregnant people). and then look at how april has no food in the fridge, and the 'kind' white woman who views herself as a savior lies to her face about her options and uses her up. that's f*cking evil. that is the absolute absence of a god.
i think april had it right. nobody loves her at all, how on earth is she supposed to believe god loves her? all these people around her who believe so hard in god keep making her life harder in ways she can't tangibly confront.
this, jesus camp, and the many documentaries about religious child abuse and residential schools are why i have extreme trust issues when someone says they're a christian. do you judge people for their sexual practices (if they're having it with a consenting partner), or maybe are you going to spout off some anti-trans crap to my face? i tense up, because in that moment i genuinely don't know if you are a possible threat to myself or my loved ones. most christians i know in my personal life are cool. but some are terrifying in their willful ignorance and willingness to punish the personal choices of others through violence, intimidation, and cowardly legislation.
shannon brewer is my f*cking hero. her grit, determination, and awareness that access to safe abortion is not an issue you can turn your back on, has played out realistically, in the wake of Roe v Wade being overturned. i wish her all the best.
i hope april has found a better support network than the uncaring liars who bring her pampers and expect her to be grateful for their scraps."
