"Very dry, subdued, and subtly classy, not unlike its star. Bill Murray plays a caricatured version of himself that's slightly reminiscent of his characters in Groundhog Day and Scrooged (indeed, there's some subtle references to those movies tucked in here too). An homage of sorts to the old comedy-musical holiday variety specials that were put out by the likes of Bob Hope and Dean Martin, and as such it's light on substance but heavy on celebrity cameos and musical performances. I did however enjoy that, for the most part, it steered away from holiday standards and instead dragged out some lesser-played Christmas tunes. Some of the celebrity performances were surprisingly good; Maya Rudolph throws herself completely into Darlene Love's Wall of Sound classic "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)", and Rashida Jones reminds us in her brief vocal performance that she is indeed Quincy's daughter. While the whole thing is familiar, it's also an unmistakably unique holiday special, a Christmas viewing for the lapsed believers and agnostics in the audience who are alone or with friends, having a drink and feeling a little sentimental."
