This is the story behind one of the world’s most loved films; about three unlikely Australian hero-(ine)s daring to step up from the shadows in their shimmering sequined glory and be counted. It’s the story of how a low-budget Australian film about three drag queens changed the course of history and loudly and proudly brought a celebration of gay culture to the world that continues to resonate twenty years on.

"4.75⭐️ Fantastic bts doc about how cult favorite THE ADVENTURES OF PRISCILLA QUEEN OF THE DESERT came about. It also features the brutal anti-LGBTQ+ history in Australia and the utterly toxic environment the movie managed to come out of. This was definitely a passion project that came together magically on a shoestring and a prayer to the wig gods. Interesting to see how excited Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving were, against warnings not to do the film, and how conflicted and uncomfortable Terence Stamp was after being coerced into taking it. He eventually was able to jump on the bus and get there. I think perhaps his vulnerability did transfer into his performance, which was ironically sensitive, moving and universally lauded. But it saddened me to hear him call his character Bernadette an old dog (after finally watching the completed film as he was kept from seeing the daily rushes). However distressingly put though, it was kind of like that moment in Tootsie when Dustin Hoffman wanted Dorothy to be pretty. Both sad and sympathetic. The further irony of course is that Bernadette is NOT an old dog. She is beautiful. This doc was made in 2015 and at 86 as of this date, Terence is alive and well and I hope has been able to see that all the films fans hold her very dear. If you are a fan it’s a must see. A captivating, well done, fun, sometimes distressing but very informative doc! "
