"WOOF did this movie really come for my family with all its claws unsheathed. Denial of trauma and demanding 'apologies' from its victims. i needed to pause it a few times but it was really good and very validating.
the film grain makes it feel like a home movie, which can be rough at times, but ups the feeling of an affluent family get-together. the only people who come off well are Christian himself, the staff who have his back, and the new boyfriend of his sister.
To white people who don't already have this bit of common sense and empathy: for god's sake DON'T bring your POC partner to your racist family's get-together, for their safety and mental health!!! do you not love them?? oh my god grow up and don't use a human being like that."
"Original Danish title is “Festen”."
