"An early Kurosawa, set in post-war Japan, about a rookie cop (Mifune) desperately searching the Tokyo underworld for his stolen service weapon."

"Man did I love this. It’s amazing when you realize it was made in 1949. This might have been the first real cop procedural. This is a black and white Japanese movie. So I know that may scare some of you off. And it can move slow in parts. But if you want to be absorbed in a movie with great characters and depth of story. The story is a rookie homicide cop has his gun stolen by a pickpocket. Worried about people being hurt by his gun he tries to track his gun down. We follow him through a country impoverished after the war. It’s really engrossing if you are in the mode for depth"
