"Such a great film, especially with the interesting pairing of sports film and noir. Very solidly written script paired with tight editing, solid score and cinematography (such interesting usage of dark alleyways and shadows) as well as great performances. Kirk Douglas is fantastic in this, managing to take a thoroughly unlikeable character and make him super compelling. Arthur Kennedy is also great as well. Well deserved Oscar nominations for both of them (and a deserved editing Oscar win too). Highly recommended."
