"This is a self-indulgent documentary by the actor and martial artist, Mark Decascos. He traces part of his family lineage in Japan, by researching the revered samurai and author of the Five Rings, Miyamoto Musashi his artistic memoir of poetry, and philosophy. Mark visits all of the monuments erected in Japan that were once landmarks of Musashi's journey to learn the way of the warrior, from the age of 13 until the end of his life at the age of 62. Mark feels emotionally connected to learning about his heritage and the greatest Japanese swordsman of all time. He also pays respect to a famous martial arts school, The Tekada School of Horseback Archery, and a great swordmaker,🗡️ who both still use the ancient techniques. The documentary is composed of anime shorts, historical reenactments, and some dramatic acting. It was a passion project from Mark Decascos for the A&E network, and I learned about a historical figure that was both emotionally complex and persinally engaging."
