Nerdy Walter Paisley, a maladroit busboy at a beatnik café who doesn't fit in with the cool scene around him, attempts to woo his beautiful co-worker, Carla, by making a bust of her. When his klutziness results in the death of his landlady's cat, he panics and hides its body under a layer of plaster. But when Carla and her friends enthuse over the resulting artwork, Walter decides to create some bigger and more elaborate pieces using the same artistic process.

"I am giving this horror movie four stars because it took me totally by surprise. I love watching Roger Corman movies, but for some reason, this one slipped under my radar. The movie stars Dick Miller as Walter Paisley, a dimwitted bus boy who works at a trendy Beatnik Café. He wants to break into the scene of the artist and poets and be accepted as one of them. One remarkable choice sends Walter into a spiral that plays out during the entire plot. I enjoyed being thrown into the deep end of the pool, watching the ensemble characters play the role of beatniks as they sing, free speak, emote, and generally be nasty to each other. The unique background gave the movie such a colourful feel. The music was a perfect match to the spoken word performed at the Café. Keep an eye out for the beatnik wearing the Gettysburg Union Kepi Hat. He was just too much for me, man. He was way out. If this isn't your scene, you can always split."
