Mariposa becomes the Royal Ambassador of Flutterfield, and is sent to bring peace between her fairy land and their rivals, the Crystal Fairies of Shimmervale. While Mariposa doesn't make a great first impression on the King, she becomes fast friends with his shy daughter, Princess Catania. However, a misunderstanding causes Mariposa to be banished from their fairy land. As Mariposa and Zee returns to Flutterfield, they encounter a dark fairy on her way to destroy Shimmervale. Mariposa rushes back and helps Princess Catania to save their fairy land and together, the two girls prove that the best way to make a friend, is to be a friend.

"Mariposa finally got a sequel, and they bring up a great dynamic. One bad thing though is they got rid of the original voice actor who was Hispanic and replaced her with the regular Barbie voice for the sequel.
As for the great dynamic though, it still works. It's not only between Mariposa's people and the crystal fairies but also with the fact she now has giant wings.
I only wish her friends we grew to love in the first movie appeared more in this one.
Part of me wonders if the writers watched the first movie. Then part of me wonders if they had would the story have improved or actually gotten worse. (If they had actually created a good sequel that truly complimented the first would it have just bombed? Thats what I mean.) I enjoy this one even if it wasn't a proper sequel."
