"This is brilliant little coming of age, crime story that plays charmers against the treacherous. I can't think of another film quite like it, though it has a lot in common with some of the best gangster flicks. Naturally, it pales to the masterful writing of the E. L. Doctorow book; but, you read big D for the language, which can't be captured on a screen."
