In August of 1949, Life Magazine ran a banner headline that begged the question: "Jackson Pollock: Is he the greatest living painter in the United States?" The film is a look back into the life of an extraordinary man, a man who has fittingly been called "an artist dedicated to concealment, a celebrity who nobody knew." As he struggled with self-doubt, engaging in a lonely tug-of-war between needing to express himself and wanting to shut the world out, Pollock began a downward spiral.

"Ed Harris always puts in the work as an actor and thi film is no exception; but, he bests himself by directing this one too. It's a bleak, stoic biopic about a flawed man making art and mistakes. Ed takes a very linear stance as director and doesn't busy the frame with fancy camera work, edits or b-roll. How that works here is debatable; but, it worked for me. If you're an art head or just dig an occasional tragedy, this may be your cuppa. Pair this with that Basquiat film with Jeffrey Wright."
