"This was described as a found footage version of Hereditary. That’s actually kind of true. A woman inherits a home from her grandmother and decides to move in and make a fresh start. She wants to be a yoga influencer on social media, but she is having trouble finding her voice. She stumbles across this book her grandmother left her, and it looks like self-improvement stuff. She starts doing the things in this book and it turns out there was a much more sinister reason for these tasks. It’s similar in the fact she was pretty much tricked into doing this stuff and bringing about the things that happened. However, where Hereditary had all this detail and lore to explore. This one did not. There were also not enough scares. There were a few of the jump varieties, but with found footage, I expect to see all kinds of things going on in the background. They only partially explore what could have been done which was a missed opportunity. It is one of the better-found footage movies I have seen in a while and would recommend it. Although it’s more of a thriller to me than a full-on horror, so keep that in mind. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movies Reviews with Clarence for a full break down.
