"I absolutely loved this novel! Anyone who reads this and doesn't fall in love with William Marshal, must have a heart of stone. Not only is he handsome, a smooth talker, but the most loyal knight who has ever lived with the patience of a saint. This man somehow managed to remain loyal to Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and most of their brood which considering their behaviour at times is truly remarkable.

I had read a little about William in SKP's Plantagenet Trilogy, but I never knew much about his life. Elizabeth Chadwick's knowledge about medieval history is phenomenal and you feel like you are eating, breathing and living the middle ages. I would love to see someone bring this book to the big screen - although I don't think it would do the book justice, it would bring William's remarkable life to the attention of more than us Historical Fiction lovers!

Highly recommended,
Andrea"
