"I love a good M/M romance; I read the blurb and was hooked. I knew going in the Preacher would be against his son being gay. Once I was in deep, I had a big problem with it and kept yelling and screaming at my kindle. I felt their pain; it was raw and emotional. Now add high school bullies, abusive parents, love, and you have a tremendous gut-wrenching story. The mom in me wanted to adopt these fictional characters.

Johan and his sister Mary move to small-town Kentucky with their parents. Johan's father is the new Preacher in town. Johan feels out of place and hiding a secret from his family that he is gay, as it goes against everything he has been told to believe, and will be excommunicated. On his first day of school, he has a run-in with Roman , the school star quarterback, and from there on, he has a target on his back.

I will always be an outsider in my family. Never accepted or part of it.

Roman can do no wrong in his town as football is viewed as a religion. Many people turn a blind eye to some of his indiscretions. He has feelings for Johan but tries to keep them bottled up; he starts to date his sister, Mary, while striving to be closer to Johan. He knows being gay; no one will turn a blind eye. Life may look good on the outside, but it's far from it. He is broody, cocky, and afraid of what others will think or do.

Roman and Johan broke me and put me back together again. I felt like I was transported back to the 1980s with such small-minded towns and hate crimes against gay people. These two went through hell. But when there is darkness, the light will follow. I couldn't help but fall in love with both of them. I hope to see if Taylor and Mary have their own book."
