"The only reason why this isn’t a one star for me is because I can appreciate that Jude Deveraux acknowledged marital rape a full 13 years before it became a crime in the US. That being said, most of this did not work for me.

Our heroine is 17, too stupid to live, and can’t communicate worth ****. Our hero is 34, inconsistently characterized, an almost CHEATER, and a RAPIST.

The plot was constant conflict, rather rapid resolution, rinse, and repeat. So much happened, but there was so little character development. The main conflict was fueled by so much miscommunication/lack of communication, and then a cartoonishly evil “other woman.” The resolution is off page, so, we never have that satisfaction.

While I can see how she helped create the genre in this book, it just did not work for me. I will likely read all, what, 15 books in this series, because I am curious to see how time, and the way that the plight of women throughout the years that Deceraux wrote romance changes the way that she handled the characterizations of our leads, but I am unsure if I will appreciate."
