Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they'll never see. It's a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand. After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure. Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. ""He threw her a silver and said for your loss" "you'll have to go through me, please go through me" are the sentences that killed me. This book is dark, adventurous, very slow at the beginning and a bit depressing, but the ending was worth it. I hope the other two books will be a bit more upbeat since he now has Lila..."
"I really recommend this book if you like silly and really cool magic!! The way the author explains everything is prefect and easy to understand despite how interesting the magic and different dimension thing is, so don’t worry about getting confused how everything works! Also!! I only had to read the first few sentences to get into this book, that’s how good it is! And every chapter or so it switches between two main characters points of views, and both of them were super likable in their own ways!! Now it is a little cliche sometimes and kinda predictable, but I promise it’s still super good!!! Like just how everything is written and described is phenomenal! And I’m sure the second and third books (which I haven’t read) have even more to give. I have the second so I plan on reading that at some point and I will be sure to leave a review on that one! Anyways, PLEASE READ!!! ITS SO GOOD (IN MY OPINION)!"
