he death in the book. There was no lead up, nothing followed, it was strange. All the sudden boom, boom, boom...dead. 1 line, that was it. One of your main characters dies and all you have to say is one line.
Everybody I talked to said this book was great. They couldn't put it down. It was a page turner. It was sad.
The only sad part about it was when the baby was given away.
I don't recommend this, it was a waste of time and still frustrates me.30:T7e7,I wanted to like this book - I really did. The premise was good, fascinating, even.
The book, was, in a word, terrible.
The characters were impossible to like. Norah, the PPD wife who "lost" her daughter turns into a *****; her son, Paul, dabbles in weed (oh! the horror!); David, the husband who lied to his wife about her own child, never grows up, never grows a pair; the nurse, who smuggled Down syndrome baby Phoebe away, is constantly in conflict with herself; and then Phoebe, who, through the whole book we are told is developing into a proper adult, healthy, intact, etc., is "a retard" at the end.
The writing was awful. Romantic scenes talked not of a woman's round breasts heaving, or even long legs, etc.; the only feature any woman in this book had was a "flat belly." The book itself could have been 100 pages shorter had Edwards not felt the need to reiterate the same mild points over and over and over; Phoebe was supposed to be "slow," not the reader.
Even the title is poorly chosen - the supposed emphasis that David put around his pictures, his camera (the "Memory Keeper"), seems like an afterthought - I can count on one hand the number of times his interest in photography (at least while he is living) is mentioned.
The part that stood out the most to me as an example of how not to write? I'll share it with you - here, Paul, the now-teenaged son of Norah and David is exposed to marijuana by his friend Duke for the first time:

"Look here," he was saying. "I got this last week from my cousin Danny."
