Quiet, shy Elyse can't believe it when she's cast as the lead in her Portland high school's production of Romeo and Juliet. Her best friend, Brynn, is usually the star, and Elyse isn't sure she's up to the task. But when someone at rehearsals starts to catch her eye-someone she knows she absolutely shouldn't be with-she can't help but be pulled into the spotlight. Austin native Gabe is contemplating the unthinkable--breaking up with Sasha, his headstrong, popular girlfriend. She's not going to let him slip through her fingers, though, and when rumors start to circulate around school, he knows she has the power to change his life forever. Gabe and Elyse both make the mistake of falling for the wrong person, and falling hard. Told in parallel narratives, this twisty, shocking story shows how one bad choice can lead to a spiral of unforeseen consequences that not everyone will survive.

"I received this via Goodreads Giveaway.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about the switching back one forth between Gabe and Elyse but once I got over that I couldn’t put this book down!

I kept wondering how the characters were connected and it didn’t “click” until the very end."
"Okay so for one, I LOVED the characters. And secondly, I know it’s probably wrong to say, but Aiden at the beginning when they liked each other was PURE GOLD. So cute. Until they slept together then it was weird. I rated it 4 starts because of the end. Aiden and Elyse were all the way across birders so how did the fire start of it happened when they ran away together? And I don’t like how they kinda rushed the end with the plot twist. It was for sure exciting, and I loved it, but I don’t like how it seems like Aiden and Elyse were right next door when they got all the way to what? Idaho? Arizona? And the car accident at the end was a nice touch but I think the author should’ve built on to it to thicken the plot twist. Things did click at the end and all around, it was fast paced, and kept me reading! For sure recommend for some spicy mystery action!"

"Thank you to Bookish First and Jennifer Donaldson for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Lies You Told Me revolves around several main characters - Elyse, Gabe, and Katherine. It tells the story of forbidden love and delves deep into teenage angst. I was immediately drawn into the story and could not put it down as I wanted to know what happened next. I felt as if the main characters had depth to them and had both strengths and flaws. And I did not see the twist/ending coming (and I usually can predict these things) though I wish the author had delved a bit more into the aftermath of events (but this is just my own issue since the author did end the book well in reality). All in all, an engaging and fast paced read which I definitely recommend."
