A breathtaking novel about love and the horrors of civil war from the bestselling author of The English Patient.'There is much to astonish, to disturb and to admire in this book... A rare triumph' GuardianAnil's Ghost transports us to Sri Lanka, a country steeped in centuries of tradition, now forced into the late twentieth century by the ravages of a bloody civil war. Enter Anil Tissera, a young woman and forensic anthropologist born in Sri Lanka but educated in the West, sent by an international human rights group to identify the victims of the murder campaigns sweeping the island. When Anil discovers that the bones found in an ancient burial site are in fact those of a much more recent victim, her search for the terrible truth hidden in her homeland begins. What follows is a story about love, about family, about identity - a story driven by a riveting mystery.

"If you enjoy little seemingly unrelated pieces coming together near the end of the story, you may enjoy thie book. For me, it had a semi-intriguing story with beautiful writing, but way too much detail, stagnant characters and tangents which, to me, made no sense to be in the story. I neither like nor disliked the book. I found there were too many gaps between the actual story, focusing on a part of a character's past, which, when you return to the present, has little to no significance other than filling pages. The characters in the book were rather stagnant, and there was no overall change in action until the last 10% of the book. However, the writing was beautiful (making sense as the author is a poet), which got me through it. It wasnt my cup of tea, but I feel it was a matter of taste. "
