"Was nothing like The Midnight Library (which I loved) but it was still right up my alley."

"Have you ever wondered what it's like to be inside the mind of a 72-year-old retired woman?

This reads like we are in Grace Winters' mind, even though she's telling this story to a former student, he quickly fades into the background, becoming more of a footnote.

The experiences of Grace Winters life confronts us with the deep, often painful trauma that makes her human and relatable. Yet, with that, there’s a lot of simile and random musings that can be a bit distracting. We find ourselves constantly circling back to the grief that defines Grace along with being introduced to a supernatural element that hits you out of nowhere, like a deer suddenly stepping into the road.

Ultimately, the story invites us to reflect on how we can get lost in the sorrow of our grief, feeling invisible as we move through life. But it reminds us, like Grace, that even in our sadness, we leave an impact on others and the world around us—and can find purpose in protecting it.

"
"Parts of this book were quite touching, but the fantastical element was really not my thing. "
