"I've read some mixed reviews about this going into the book. I found it enjoyable, but I haven't read any other Meg Cabot book to say if it is up to par with her other work. But I did like it. It was very intriguing. The Hades and Persephone story was always one of my favorites and I liked the spin on it.<br/><br/>The only thing I didn't really like about the book, which is mild, is that we had a ton of build up and more build up and tension and the story kept building... only to leave the book feeling like the critical point, the climax, is awaiting us in the next book. The moment that awaits us at the end doesn't seem to fit the bill, at least for me, for the conflict of the book. It does leave us with an interesting cliff hanger though.<br/><br/>John was an interesting character. I liked him more than Pierce. Pierce was okay, it just took me a bit to warm up to her. But her trials were interesting. It wasn't easy for her, to try and be social, but she did step up after a bit, even if it wasn't a smooth process.<br/><br/>The story was really interesting and it was an easy read. I know it's gotten quite a bit of mixed reviews, but I definitely think this is a book that should be read. A bit of a darker setting for a YA, but definitely not in a bad way."
