NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE—The #1 New York Times bestselling worldwide sensation with more than 18 million copies sold, hailed by The New York Times Book Review as “a painfully beautiful first novel that is at once a murder mystery, a coming-of-age narrative and a celebration of nature.”New York Times Readers Pick: 100 Best Books of the 21st Century For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand. Then the time comes when she yearns to be touched and loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life—until the unthinkable happens.Where the Crawdads Sing is at once an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps.

"Full disclosure I didn’t even finish this book I hated it I only picked it up from the library because I had seen such good reviews about it and I follow Reese Witherspoon’s book club It was awful I listened to it in audiobook format and I couldn’t even get through the first disc it’s just one of the most boring books I have ever listen to if I could give it zero stars I would"
"I really didn't know what I was getting into when I chose to read this book based on recommendation but I'm so very glad I did. The background of the characters felt so authentic and I enjoyed nearly every page of my reading until the end. No spoilers and probably just personal preference, but I wanted something different."
"I am DNF'ing this book at 20 percent.

I bought it because so many people were hyping this up, and maybe something does happen halfway through that may have changed my opinion on this book but I can't force myself to trudge through the boredom I am feeling while reading this book.

Yes, I even tried the Audiobook.

I'm sorry to the author and those who liked this book, but it's just not for me and that is okay."
"“It’s between me, the sand, and the sea…Carolina knows.”

Where the Crawdads sing is a wonderful coming of age novel about a girl living in the marsh on her own. We watch her grow into her personality and strengths. We watch her learn how to be independent but also want someone to care for you. Kya was abandoned by her mother and siblings as a child. She was left to fend for herself as her father was a drunken gambler until the day he disappeared too. There are rumors of a marsh girl but no one has ever really seen her. As Kya gets older she is drawn to two men in her hometown of higher standing. When one turns up dead everyone points their fingers at her.

This is a book that I will recommend to everyone. I will obsess over it because it has such fantastic characters, an amazing setting, and a beautiful writing style.
The ending definitely caught me by surprise. The ended was honestly one of the best I have ever read. I would definitely reread this book! I passed it on to my mom because she loves thrillers and crime!

The plot and the writing kept me engaged the entire time. I loved that we got to follow the crime and receive new information as the court case unfolded. Sometimes I did get confused with the time periods as they got closer together but thankfully with the times at the start of each chapter it was easy to look back. The characters were very well developed. I felt like I could understand the mind of the FMC Kya. The book was well written around her mindset wanting to place you in her shoes with the amazing descriptions of the environment she was living in.

Not only is this book one for the thriller and crime junkies but it’s also a love story to Carolina and the beauties it has to offer.

If you enjoyed Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins you will enjoy this wonderful read!"
"I absolutely love this book. It is the perfect definition of a beach read, especially if you're in the outer banks. There is a small love story between two characters and I wish Delia Owens had gone further with it. I wish I could have known what would happen if they stayed together. But the relationship is not the point of the book.
AMAZING"
"Wow. I really enjoyed this one. This time around, I saw the movie first; I was just too intrigued by the story. I did also like the movie. The movie did follow pretty darn close to the book, which I thought was great.

Ok so I've always had a fascination with the South and the amount of history that surrounds it (because there are marshes and swamps there too) and I had thought that was the only place in the states where the marshes were. Glad I learned something new. This might be just what I've seen on TV or read in books, but living in or around marsh land is sort of of a subculture, right? They seem to do things a certain way. That's the feeling I'm getting. Maybe I'm wrong. I feel like there's a mysterious way about the marshes and the swamps.

The writing was excellent and the character development was great. The kind of book where you can see everything in your head as you read, which I love. I loved how Kya was so in love with her home and how she wanted to learn everything about it. I can understand where she's coming from. Being an introvert, I would rather be with my books than with other people. I have had some people in my life who've failed me but somehow I keep trying, and I'm not sure why, animals are better."
