NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ∙ GOOD MORNING AMERICA BOOK CLUB PICK ∙ A disillusioned millennial ghostwriter who, quite literally, has some ghosts of her own, has to find her way back home in this sparkling adult debut from national bestselling author Ashley Poston.A NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK OF 2022"I LOVED this book! . . . Funny, breathtaking, hopeful, and dreamy.”—Ali Hazelwood, New York Times bestselling author of The Love HypothesisFlorence Day is the ghostwriter for one of the most prolific romance authors in the industry, and she has a problem—after a terrible breakup, she no longer believes in love. It’s as good as dead. When her new editor, a too-handsome mountain of a man, won't give her an extension on her book deadline, Florence prepares to kiss her career goodbye. But then she gets a phone call she never wanted to receive, and she must return home for the first time in a decade to help her family bury her beloved father. For ten years, she's run from the town that never understood her, and even though she misses the sound of a warm Southern night and her eccentric, loving family and their funeral parlor, she can’t bring herself to stay. Even with her father gone, it feels like nothing in this town has changed. And she hates it.Until she finds a ghost standing at the funeral parlor’s front door, just as broad and infuriatingly handsome as ever, and he’s just as confused about why he’s there as she is.Romance is most certainly dead . . . but so is her new editor, and his unfinished business will have her second-guessing everything she’s ever known about love stories."One of the Summer's Hottest Reads"—Entertainment Weekly

"4.5 ⭐️ Im loving Ashley’s blend of magical realism, real life hardships and finding love in the in between. This book felt very reminiscent of the movie “Just Like Heaven” so I saw the ending coming a million miles away but I still really enjoyed the journey the author brought us through to get there."
"I didn’t expect to love this one as much as I did but it was so good!! It was a perfect mix of cute and sad and funny and mysterious and intriguing while also having the perfect autumn atmosphere! I really loved both Florence & Ben and their chemistry was both heart wrenching and swoon worthy! I loved the supernatural aspect and thought it was utilized so well throughout the story! Just really loved everything about this one"

"Ohh man!!! This book was amazing!! I was reading this while we had to euthanize my 14.5 year old dog, and it actually helped me… it is a romantic ghost story but it was set in a funeral home so there was lots of nuggets of wisdom about death and it helped me through the first day of missing my fur baby! I’m still totally gutted and heartbroken but I do think that it helped!! Thank you Ashley Poston!!! Write more please!"

"4.5 out of 5 stars. I really liked this one but it wasn’t as gripping for me until close to the end and then I was OBSESSED. I’m loving this author. This book really gives you a different perspective on death and romance all together. I personally think it’s a good one if you’re grieving someone. Do recommend!"
"I was really disappointed in this book. I absolutely loved the “Seven Year Slip”. This book was uneventful. I listened to the audio version on 1.4 to get through it. Otherwise I wouldn’t have finished it.

I never felt the connection between the main characters. This book had a lot of potential, but just didn’t see it through. I was at 75% of the book and still not much had happened since the beginning other than what you get out of the synopsis.

Yes the book does compare to a very famous Reese Witherspoon movie. But it does have its differences. It’s not a complete rip off like some of the reviews try and say."

"What I Liked:
1. Florence seeing ghosts - I love when there are supernatural elements to any story. It always makes it so much more fun

2. Queer representation - this was extra surprising given that the majority of the story takes place in a small southern town and not some major city. But I love it nonetheless because equality and representation matters

3. Rose - she’s an amazing best friend. I love that she took care of Florence post breakup and flew to the funeral. Like what a supportive friend

4. Ben and Florence - I know their time together was short but I liked their dynamic and banter. It was a little instant love-y but I understand it has to be given their circumstances

5. How Florence became a ghostwriter - I feel like this is a little on the nose but I still like it lol. Nothing deeper than that

6. The depiction of grief - Florence’s family processes grief differently and even in grief there are still moments of happiness.

What I Didn’t Like:
1. It’s not so much didn’t like but I didn’t understand why Alice and Florence don’t get along. I feel like that was never clear or even explained and then it was alluded to things getting better but not really?

2. Lee Marlow - he sucks and he’s supposed to suck so I guess this makes sense. But yeah, he sucks"
