Vanity Fair

Poverty-stricken Becky Sharp elevates herself in Society by using her natural charms and cunning, coupled with a lack of moral scruples. Her character is contrasted with that of the naive, sweet-natured and somewhat silly Amelia Smedley. Set in the early decades of the nineteenth century, the play follows the fluctuations in their fortunes for some thirty years, from school through to middle age.
