I had a difficult time deciding if I should rate this book 3 or 4 stars, so I settled for a happy medium at 3.5. Usually if I’m really not feeling a book by 50 pages in, I’ll DNF it. I was struggling to even get to page 50, but it was a book club pick so I pushed to finish.

I had a hard time with it being set in London. The verbiage was a little hard for me to understand and I used the dictionary feature on my kindle A LOT throughout this book.

The main thing that truly bothered me was the whole James & Emily dynamic. It was weird that there was so much guilt and fear surrounding their one on one interactions. They never crossed a line & no one knew Emily’s thoughts. She was so afraid of Adam finding out for what? Could it have been deemed a little inappropriate? Sure. But not a relationship ender by any means. It was just weird to me. As was the relevance of Kate in the story line. I feel like her role was unnecessary. I would’ve selfishly also liked to see James & Emily end up together and Kate prevented that from happening.

I’m also very confused as to why Adam was even with Emily if he never liked her and cheated the entire relationship??? What’s the point? Sure he was controlling, but it wasn’t a big part of the story so that all felt weird. It seemed like the ending of their relationship came out of nowhere and was very abrupt. Why did he push to have her back after calling off the wedding or cheating the first time if that’s how he felt?

The mama’s boy act and catering to her every whim is also very confusing if Pammie felt that way about him..

To be honest, I really couldn’t see where this was going. I could’ve never imagined how it ended. That made me not very motivated to keep reading because I wasn’t eagerly trying to figure something out and see how the book ended. I did up my rating because the ending did shock me in a good way. I also really appreciated the prologue and the way it made me see the story in an entirely different light when I went back to read it after finishing the book.
