"DNF 43%. For 10 days I plowed into this book — the reviews were quite high — and every day it remained a chore. A cryptic combination of climate disaster, chef work and magical thinking in a mountain aerie where only elite people are invited. The characters were wisps, even the main character chef, who gets the challenge to cook food no longer available elsewhere. A world suppressed by acidic smog killing animals, agriculture, people and communities was sadly believable, but little else drew me in. I just didn’t get it!"
"Wowie zowie! The imagery in this book was insane, the way she paints with words was out of this world. I also really liked the images used at the end of chapters, I didn’t really understand it at first but then I got it going through! Lots of moral discussion and inner reflection going on, at times could get a little too wordy however loved every minute of it!! **** the rich, and love every meal you have."
"This book left me with the exact same bittersweet feeling regarding the main romance as the land of milk and honey did. The romance is a sapphic romance and it’s hard to put into words but the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo left me with this feeling of sadness, the sadness of someone’s entire life ending, but happiness about the best elements of someone’s life. I felt the same with the land of milk and honey. If that’s what you want another book to recreate, read this book. If you’re looking for a book that has a similar setting—like classic Hollywood, etc—this is not your book. The setting is very different, but it left me with the same feeling when I closed it at the end."
