"Oh yes! Even though the cover looks like a bodice buster it’s probably my favorite book. It’s well researched and considered to be an accurate portrayal of what life was like at the time. "

"Full of historical detail, often not relevant to the plot, which sometimes slowed the story down. This book felt massive. Also, incredibly violent. The author did not shy away from brutal scenes, or try to “redeem” brutality.

Still, a fascinating history, made even more so by living in central Texas and less than a mile away from a historic marker of a family killed by a Comanche raid. It’s fascinating to think of Texas with buffalo, too.

I was also struck by how quickly—less than a lifetime—an entire society was destroyed."
