ONE OF THE BEST FEEL-GOOD BOOKS OF 2021 BY THE WASHINGTON POST “I read Eight Perfect Hours in one sitting, in four perfect hours, because I couldn’t bear to put it down without knowing the ending.” —Jodi Picoult, #1 New York Times bestselling author In this romantic and heartwarming novel, two strangers meet in chance circumstances during a blizzard and spend one perfect evening together, thinking they’ll never see each other again. But fate seems to have different plans. From the acclaimed author of the “swoon-worthy…rom-com” (The Washington Post) Dear Emmie Blue.On a snowy evening in March, thirty-something Noelle Butterby is on her way back from an event at her old college when disaster strikes. With a blizzard closing off roads, she finds herself stranded, alone in her car, without food, drink, or a working charger for her phone. All seems lost until Sam Attwood, a handsome American stranger also trapped in a nearby car, knocks on her window and offers assistance. What follows is eight perfect hours together, until morning arrives and the roads finally clear. The two strangers part, positive they’ll never see each other again but fate, it seems, has a different plan. As the two keep serendipitously bumping into one another, they begin to realize that perhaps there truly is no such thing as coincidence. With plenty of charming twists and turns and Lia Louis’s “bold, standout voice” (Gillian McAllister, author of The Good Sister), Eight Perfect Hours is a gorgeously crafted novel that will make you believe in the power of fate.

"This story is so ridiculously BORING. Not a romance but a book about a girl's meltdown over 300 pages. Were I looking for some book about anxiety, this would fit right in because it is portrayed with some serious accuracy, but this is the only good thing about the story. Anxiety became Noelle's whole persona. There's nothing about her that feels even remotely interesting. She's too simple - to the point of being dumb. I hoped to see some joy at least when she was talking about her hobby, but nope, all attention was on her anxiety and lack of any positive emotion whatsoever. The destiny thing also felt forced as hell. There's no way I believe Sam would settle with someone like her. And if I see the word "bloody" in a book one more time, I'm gonna explode!"
"
I tried extremely hard to like this book. It started off strong, but I found my self struggling to finish the second half of the book. I was confused on the genre overall. It was slow and majority of the events were way to predictable. This book reminded me of a cheesy Hallmark movie. This read just was not for me! "
"I really enjoyed this book because it really left you on the edge of your seat. Never really knew when they were gonna fall in love or how it was gonna happen. the way they did fall in love was so cute. This entire book was really really cute and I really enjoyed, the teasing too. The writing was really good and when they first kissed, I was kicking my legs."
"I needed a light, refreshing novel, and while this definitely made me cry, it was the perfect choice! I only wish it took me longer to read so I could have my own eight perfect hours, but alas, I read too fast!

This was truly as much as a romance as a journey of self discovery, and I’m realizing these are actually my favorite kind of romances. These are the books that sneakily teach you something, and I love that!

The lesson here is to not allow fear to make you stuck, and to embrace the change that comes from letting go of fear. We are not locked into permanent blueprints in our lives, and even though this book explored the concept of fate, it focuses even more so on choices. And I can certainly ascribe to that belief!

I would love to read more from this author, so bring on the thought provoking stories!"

"This is labeled as romance but I agree with a friend who read another book by this author that it's more women's fiction with a bit of romance. I feel the focus is more on how Noelle feels stuck or lost, and is learning how to find herself again. This is the part of the tory I felt was the better plot--Noelle figuring out what she wants for herself in life, and how to balance that with helping her mom who recently had a stroke and not falling into old patterns with an ex. I feel this part would be 3.5 stars.

The supposed "eight perfect hours" is right at the beginning of the book, but it feels rather glossed over, so I didn't really see what about it left her and Sam so enraptured with each other. They would keep having chance encounters but I just never really got into it. This aspect I feel was a 2.

Also, I see it's tagged as Christmas/Holiday but it's not. The blizzard happens in March, and it's not until the very end Christmas happens, which is like a one page mention. Just in case anyone is picking this up for that reason."
