"Karal is pretty great (albeit slightly inufferable in his overall... goodness), especially considering he's probably the youngest of the crew that gets the spotlight in this series. Everyone else, however, has a whooooooool lot of maturing to do before they really come into their own. This part of the Valdamer series does have a more YA feel than the series leading up to it. It doesn't check all the YA bingo card (no love triangle, and minimal Melodrama), which is probably why I personally still enjoy it enough for multiple rereads. ;)"
